Various activities will be held across the state from April 22 to May 1, 2025; Dedicate nine days of sincere efforts for our Earth

Mumbai, April 20: To promote the conservation and protection of the environment, the Department of Environment and Climate Change will organize the *Save Environment, Beautify Earth" initiative across Maharashtra from World Earth Day on April 22, 2025 to Maharashtra Day on May 1, 2025. Minister Pankaja Munde has appealed to everyone to participate in this initiative.

As part of this campaign, Minister Pankaja Munde herself will join a cleanliness drive at Powai Lake, Mumbai, on April 22. She has called upon all citizens to actively take part in the initiative.

Join in river, stream, and lake cleanliness drives

Mrs. Munde stated, "April 22 is World Earth Day. On this day, we are launching a very meaningful initiative through the Department of Environment and Climate Change. From April 22 to May 1, various programs will be held – just as we celebrate Navratri by worshiping different forms of the Goddess over nine days, similarly, we should dedicate these nine days to worshiping and caring for Mother Earth.

On April 22, the campaign will be launched, and Munde will begin the cleanliness effort at Powai Lake. She urged that on April 22, 23, and 24, people across villages, towns, talukas, districts, and cities should clean various water sources, including rivers, streams, and lakes.

She has appealed for the participation of all public representatives and government officials, from Gram Sevaks to Zilla Parishad CEOs, from Talathis to District Collectors, from Gram Panchayat members to Zilla Parishad Presidents, as well as MLAs, MPs, and Guardian Ministers.

Various organizations and NGOs are also encouraged to participate. Exceptional contributors in river, stream, and lake cleaning efforts will be honored at the district level after the Maharashtra Day flag hoisting and recognized at the state level as well

Those practicing "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" to be felicitated

On April 25, 26, and 27, government agencies, organizations, and public representatives are encouraged to practice and promote the three Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This means:

- Reduce: Minimize the use of harmful materials

- Reuse: Use good items repeatedly

- Recycle: Convert and reuse materials like water, benefiting the Earth and us alike.

Mrs. Munde emphasized that those demonstrating exceptional projects or practices under these principles will be honored on May 1, Maharashtra Day, by the Guardian Minister at the district level and also appreciated at the state level, with efforts to integrate these practices into broader policies and schemes.

Slogan competition and recognition

On April 28, 29, and 30, a slogan competition  will be held under the campaign. The best slogans will be honored on Maharashtra Day and included in the  Maharashtra Day parade. Three slogans from each district will be selected, and the top three at the state level will be chosen for use in official campaigns by the Department of Environment and Climate Change. The creators of these slogans will be honored at the state level.

From April 22 to May 1, a variety of activities will take place. For these initiatives to succeed,

public representatives and citizens must participate actively*

Mrs. Munde has urged everyone to join and support this campaign.
