Mumbai, May 27 : Shri Laxminarayan Temple is not merely a religious site but a vibrant centre for education, social service, moral values, and cultural advancement, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He stated that in the future, this temple could evolve into a dedicated hub for healthcare services, cultural education, and the preservation of regional languages for the middle class.

The 150th anniversary celebration of Shri Laxminarayan Temple was held in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly Adv. Rahul Narwekar, Minister for Skill Development, Employment & Innovation Mangal Prabhat Lodha, members of the temple trust board, and a large gathering of devotees.



A Historical Contribution to Social Consciousness – Amit Shah

In his address, Mr. Shah remarked that in 1875, during the era of foreign rule, great visionaries initiated a movement of social consciousness through the establishment of this temple. He lauded the work of the temple and the Madhavbaug Trust for their remarkable contribution to society. He especially appreciated the trust's value-driven approach based on purity, balance, and noble deeds (shuchita, santulan, satkarma).

As the temple progresses towards its bicentennial, Mr. Shah expressed his hope that it would continue to grow not just as a religious institution but as a social and educational pillar for the community.

While highlighting the achievements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 11 years of leadership, Mr. Shah noted that historic initiatives such as the construction of the Ram Mandir, the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, global promotion of Yoga, and Operation Sindoor have significantly enhanced India’s self-confidence and national identity.

Religious and Cultural Programmes Have Guided Society – CM Devendra Fadnavis

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in his speech, said that over the past 150 years, Shri Laxminarayan Temple has played a crucial role in guiding society through religious, cultural, and welfare-oriented programmes. He emphasized that the work of the temple’s trust board extends well beyond religious affairs, contributing significantly to social service, charitable activities, cultural values, and religious observance.

The Chief Minister assured that the state government would extend all necessary support to the temple and its trust for future endeavours. He also shared his personal connection with the temple, recalling previous visits and expressing joy over having the opportunity to offer prayers once again.

Mr. Fadnavis remarked that Shri Laxminarayan Temple is a symbol of deep faith and that for 150 years, devotees have believed that the divine presence resides there. He praised the uninterrupted service activities conducted by the temple trust throughout the years.
