Nashik (Correspondent) 14 Oct 2025 : A five-day Professional Goat Farming Training Program was successfully conducted at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University from October 7 to 11, 2025. A total of 37 trainees participated in this program. The valedictory function was chaired by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane.
While addressing the trainees, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sonawane said that due to changing agricultural conditions, fluctuations in crop prices, and uncertain income, goat farming has emerged and grown as an important allied agricultural enterprise. He appealed to farmers and youth to adopt goat farming on a large scale, as it ensures sustainable income with minimal investment.
The university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jogendra Singh Bisen also interacted with the trainees and participated in the event. The training included various useful topics such as goat feeding and housing management, reproduction and care of newborn, common goat diseases and preventive measures, marketing management, record keeping, and bank financial assistance for goat farming. The program also featured a study tour to successful goat farmers associated with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
The program was graced by the presence of Dr. Milind Bhange, Assistant Commissioner, Animal Husbandry, and Dr. C. M. Pardeshi, Principal, College of Livestock Management and Dairy Production, Adgaon, Nashik.
The training was coordinated and conducted by Dr. Shyam Kadus-Patil, Veterinary Science Specialist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Senior Scientist and Head Dr. Nitin Thoke highlighted the successful goat farming practices followed by the Kendra’s model farmers. Academic Coordinator Mr. Amol Pund made special efforts to ensure the success of the program.
Also present were Agricultural Engineer Mr. Rajaram Patil, Horticulture Expert Mr. Hemraj Rajput, Agricultural Scientist Dr. Prakash Kadam, Home Science Expert Mrs. Archana Deshmukh, Soil and Water Specialist Mr. Mangesh Vyavahare, Computer Programmer Mr. Harshal Kale, and Mr. Rishikesh Pawar.
