World-Class ‘Convention Centre’ to be Set Up in Nagpur : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

MoU Signed with Spain’s Fira Barcelona International Company

Mumbai, October 10: A world-class convention centre equipped with all modern facilities will soon be established in Nagpur. In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today at CM’s Varsha Residence in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis between the Government of Maharashtra and Fira Barcelona International Company of Spain.

Chief Minister Fadnavis directed that the site selected for the proposed convention centre in Nagpur should be well connected by all modes of transportation to ensure accessibility and convenience.

The event was attended by Spain’s Ambassador to India, Juan Antonio, CEO of Fira Barcelona International, Ricard Zapatero, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) Sanjay Sethi, President of Pioneer Exhibition and Convention Pvt. Ltd. Mukesh Arora, Vice President Jeet Arora, and Nagpur District Collector Vipin Itankar.

Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that the proposed convention centre in Nagpur should not merely serve as a venue for exhibitions and events but also become a prominent platform for organizing cultural programs. The design and interiors of the convention centre should reflect Nagpur’s rich history so that every visitor gets to experience the city’s heritage, he said. He further emphasized that the centre should be visually appealing, technologically advanced, and a model of eco-friendly architecture.

Spain’s Ambassador Juan Antonio highlighted the strong bilateral relations between India and Spain, noting that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez share a close rapport, which is strengthening cooperation between the two nations.

He praised India’s efforts in leveraging artificial intelligence and modern technologies to bring positive transformation to the lives of ordinary citizens — a development being recognized globally. He added that Mumbai is emerging as a “powerhouse” not only of India but also of South Asia, and therefore Spain is eager to collaborate with Maharashtra, the state of such significance.

A presentation was given by Fira Barcelona International CEO Ricard Zapatero during the event, following which the MoU was formally exchanged between the Nagpur District Administration and Fira Barcelona International Company.
