Dharavi Redevelopment to Be Environment-Friendly and Integrated: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Top Priority to Rehabilitation of Local Artisans

Master Plan of Dharavi Redevelopment Project Approved

Mumbai, May 28 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that the redevelopment of Dharavi—one of the country’s most unique industrial clusters and a significant economic hub—must be carried out in an environmentally sustainable and integrated manner, with highest priority given to the rehabilitation of local artisans and business owners.

He issued these instructions during a review meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and senior officials from various departments and implementing agencies.

CM Fadnavis emphasized that Dharavi's economic structure and skilled workforce are invaluable assets. The project should aim to preserve the core identity of Dharavi, and the redevelopment should ensure that every original resident is provided with a home. He added that no eligible resident should be left out, and different eligibility criteria will be applied as needed, but everyone in Dharavi must benefit from the rehabilitation process. He also stressed the importance of upholding Dharavi's commercial identity and heritage while implementing the redevelopment concept, ensuring coordination among departments, and working in harmony with local sentiments. Community involvement and trust are essential for the success of this project, he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde instructed all concerned departments to promptly issue necessary approvals and take swift action to advance the redevelopment work. During the meeting, Dharavi Redevelopment Project CEO Mr. Srinivas made a detailed presentation of the project and its scope.
