Mumbai, June 8: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has lauded Hyundai Motor’s ‘Project H₂OPE’ (Hope) initiative, which provides clean drinking water facilities in schools located in remote, tribal, and Naxal-affected areas of Gadchiroli district.
With Gadchiroli being an aspirational district, ensuring access to safe drinking water for school children in its remotest areas was a key goal envisioned by CM Fadnavis under a corporate social responsibility (CSR) approach. Responding to his visionary appeal, Hyundai undertook this social initiative, which has now successfully brought clean water to 250 schools in the district.
Appreciating Hyundai’s commitment to social welfare and community development, CM Fadnavis expressed hope that the initiative will be expanded further.
Implemented in two phases, the first phase last year saw the installation of clean water facilities in 100 schools. In the second phase this year, the initiative covered 150 schools, including:
Aheri – 35 schools
Bhamragad – 14 schools
Dhanora – 32 schools
Etapalli – 39 schools
Korchii – 14 schools
Mulchera – 16 schools
Through this effort, a total of 26,341 students now have access to clean drinking water. CM Fadnavis expressed confidence that this initiative would lead to significant improvements in both the health and education of children in the district.
Hyundai Motor India Limited, a leading automobile manufacturer, is committed to sustainable development. As part of its CSV (Creating Shared Value) policy, Hyundai launched ‘Project H₂OPE’ in Gadchiroli’s rural government schools to ensure clean and safe drinking water.
Based on a detailed survey of schools across the district, 100 schools were selected in the first phase and 150 in the second. The project involved installing:
Reverse Osmosis (RO) units
Water coolers
Submersible pumps
Borewells
Six-layer water storage tanks
Additionally, awareness sessions on water conservation and hygiene were conducted. According to the company, Hyundai invested ₹5.5 crore in this project under its CSV strategy.
The initiative has not only provided clean water to thousands of students but also contributed to better health and educational outcomes in one of Maharashtra’s most challenging districts.
