Pune, June 18: Pimpri-Chinchwad is a rapidly developing city, and its future growth must be carefully and sustainably planned. With this vision, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive development plan for the next 50 years. He also instructed that the Chikhali-Charholi town planning scheme be canceled in response to public and elected representatives' demands, emphasizing the need to take citizens into confidence during planning processes.
The Chief Minister was speaking during the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony of various development projects by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), including the unveiling of a sculptural tribute to Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Namdev Maharaj on the Pune-Alandi Palakhi Marg in Wadmukhwadi. He also inaugurated the Santpeeth auditorium and art gallery, among other projects.
Prominent dignitaries present included MPs Shrirang Barne and MLA Uma Khapre, Amit Gorkhe, Shrikant Bharatiya, Mahesh Landge, Shankar Jagtap, former MLA Ashwini Jagtap, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, District Collector, and senior literary scholar of Sant literature Dr. Sadanand More.
Highlighting the spiritual legacy of the region, CM Fadnavis said that Sant Dnyaneshwar laid the foundation of the Warkari sect and Sant Tukaram elevated it. Through simple language, Sant Dnyaneshwar conveyed profound Bhagwat philosophy, drawing lakhs of devotees to his palanquin procession. Sant Namdev carried these teachings as far as Punjab, with his verses even included in the Sikh holy scripture, Guru Granth Sahib.
Fadnavis lauded PCMC’s initiative in creating a “Santpeeth” that spreads these universal values alongside CBSE curriculum. He assured full support from the state government for the expansion and development of this initiative.
On environmental efforts, the CM stated that 100% of wastewater flowing into the Indrayani River would be treated to preserve its sanctity. Two sewage treatment plants (STPs) are being established under the AMRUT scheme, with required funding already provided.
Speaking on public safety, he commended the police for launching the “Jyeshthanubandh” app to assist senior citizens and the AI-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) being implemented in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. These efforts, he said, exemplify policing guided by the values of humanity and care.
