Mumbai : Over 650 NSS volunteers from colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai and SNDT Women’s University participated in the Annual Hiroshima Day Peace Rally organized by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal, today, on 6th August 2025.
The rally began at Azad Maidan at 3:00 PM and concluded at Hutatma Chowk by 3:30 PM. Students, graphically depicting the horrors of nuclear war, led the march, followed by hundreds of NSS volunteers, Gandhian workers, peace activists, journalists, and peace-loving citizens. The rally aimed to raise awareness about the catastrophic consequences of nuclear weapons and reaffirm our collective commitment to peace and non-violence.
Students carried large banners and placards with slogans like 'NO MORE HIROSHIMA', 'We want to grow, not to blow up', 'NO BOMB, YES PEACE' and 'NO WAR, YES PEACE'.
At 3.45 PM, a Peace Pledge was administered at Hutatma Chowk by Dr Hubnath Pandey, Retd. Professor, University of Mumbai and Jayant Diwan, Trustee, Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal.
The pledge called upon students and citizens toward a peaceful, nuclear-free world.
The rally featured compelling visual representations through posters depicting the devastation caused by the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6th and 9th August 1945. The aerial bombings claimed the lives of lakhs of innocent civilians. Even after 80 years, the tragedy remains a powerful reminder of the urgent need for global nuclear disarmament and lasting peace.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and strong public support, reinforcing the timeless Gandhian message of peace and nonviolence in today’s turbulent world.
