New Delhi, 8 August : The Mahabodhi Mahavihara, built at the sacred site in Bodh Gaya where the most compassionate Lord Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, is considered the highest seat of reverence for Buddhists across the world. Currently, its trust is governed under the BT Act of 1949, which provides for 4 Buddhist and 4 Hindu trustees, with the District Collector serving as the Chairman. Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment and National President of the Republican Party of India, Shri Ramdas Athawale, today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament and strongly demanded that the Act be amended so that all trustees, including the Chairman, are Buddhists, thereby ensuring that the Mahabodhi Mahavihara is brought entirely under Buddhist management.
Shri Ramdas Athawale held a 10-minute discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the interaction, he lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, that destroyed Pakistani terrorist bases, and conveyed that the entire nation is grateful for this achievement. He also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Prime Minister for carrying out the operation with such precision and resolve. The Republican Party is an ally of the NDA at the national level and a key partner in the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra. Expressing concern that the Republican Party has not been given a share in power in Maharashtra, Shri. Ramdas Athawale urged that the party be given its due representation in the state government.
Furthermore, Shri. Athawale also reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi of having laid the foundation stone for the grand Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Memorial at Indu Mill in Mumbai, a project that is now progressing at a rapid pace.
