Citizens Also Urged to Remain Cautious
Mumbai, May 26: With heavy rainfall lashing various parts of Maharashtra—especially in Mumbai, Konkan, and western Maharashtra—Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the administration to remain vigilant and carry out relief operations efficiently. The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued intense rainfall in these regions over the next few hours.
Deputy CM Shinde held discussions with the District Collectors of Thane and Nashik as well as the Municipal Commissioners of Thane and Mumbai, issuing necessary instructions. He also gathered information from the District Collectors of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Palghar, and Raigad, and advised on relief efforts.
Disaster Management Centers in all these districts have been instructed to operate 24x7, with officials urged to remain extremely cautious and proactive. The Deputy CM emphasized that measures must be taken to prevent disruption to daily life and avoid any loss of life or property.
He directed that the entire administrative machinery be kept on standby and that rescue and relief operations be carried out swiftly as needed. Special attention must be given to waterlogged roads, the condition of bridges, and overhead electric wires. He also highlighted the need for caution regarding dilapidated and dangerous buildings. In areas like Mumbai and Thane, efforts should be made to ensure smooth suburban rail operations or to mitigate inconvenience to passengers in the event of disruptions.
Citizens are advised to follow weather advisories, avoid going outdoors unless necessary, and those living in low-lying areas should exercise extra caution. "While the administration is ready to assist, cooperation from the public is equally essential," he stated.
Currently, districts such as Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, and Nashik are experiencing the most intense rainfall.
The state government is closely monitoring the situation and is implementing all possible measures to ensure public safety, Deputy CM Shinde added.
