Chief Minister hoists the National Flag at Mantralaya on the 79th Independence Day

Mumbai, August 15: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation is progressing consistently. In just a decade, India has moved from being the world’s 11th largest economy to the 4th largest. Today, Maharashtra is rapidly advancing within the country’s overall development framework. Maharashtra is making a special contribution to the vision of a developed India. This growth story will not stop here. The Prime Minister’s call for Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) is of utmost importance. We all must work together to make India self-reliant, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.



On the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, the main state-level flag hoisting ceremony was held at Mantralaya under the hands of Chief Minister Fadnavis. He was speaking while addressing the gathering at the ceremony. Present on the occasion were Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Alok Aradhe, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis, Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif, Maharashtra Public Service Commission Chairman Rajneesh Seth, Chief Electoral Officer Dinesh Waghmare, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) O.P. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Protocol) Manisha Mhaiskar, Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai Bhushan Gagrani, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashwini Bhide, along with Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries from various departments, senior officials from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, senior police officers, freedom fighters, and other officers and staff.

The Chief Minister said that through Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army has demonstrated India’s might to the entire world. In this operation, the army systematically destroyed all terrorist bases, repelling attacks on India. This has shown the world what the new India is capable of. I congratulate and thank all the officers and soldiers who participated in Operation Sindoor, he added.

He further stated that no one can now halt India’s growth story. The country is progressing in various sectors, including space exploration. To make India self-reliant, we must produce quality goods and systems domestically. Innovation, start-ups, and technology must be developed robustly within India, and the nation is moving in that direction. The Prime Minister has appealed for the adoption of indigenous products wherever possible, to strengthen Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Chief Minister noted.

Highlighting Maharashtra’s role, he said that of all the foreign direct investment coming into India, 40% has been invested in Maharashtra, generating significant employment. Maharashtra ranks first in manufacturing, exports-imports, and start-ups. Alongside excellent education systems, the state is focusing on developing human resources, with skill-based training enabling Maharashtra to contribute significantly to the country’s development in the future.

Agriculture and Energy Sector Leap

The state has decided to provide free electricity to farmers and ensure 12 hours of daytime supply. Under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana, the world’s largest distributed solar project is being implemented in Maharashtra. Once completed by December 2026, it will ensure 12 hours of daytime electricity for farmers, making Maharashtra the first state to provide 100% green power.

Major irrigation projects are underway, including interlinking of rivers such as the Wainganga-Nalganga scheme, and diverting water flowing into the sea into the Godavari basin to drought-proof North Maharashtra and Marathwada. Similarly, projects will bring water into the Tapi basin, creating substantial water reserves for agriculture, industry, and drinking purposes.

Using Artificial Intelligence in agriculture, Maharashtra aims to enhance productivity, protect crops from climate change, and benefit farmers through initiatives like SMART and market intervention schemes.

Gadchiroli: Emerging Steel Hub

Due to the efforts of security forces and police, law and order has been established in Maharashtra. Gadchiroli is now almost free from Naxal and Maoist activities and is emerging as the country’s new steel hub. In the next ten years, it will have the nation’s largest steel production capacity.

Pioneering Infrastructure Development

The state has undertaken various infrastructure projects, including roads, airports, and the expansion of Vadhavan Port, which ranks among the world’s top ten ports. This will make Maharashtra and India a new maritime power. Airports in Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Amravati, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are being newly built or modernised.

The Samruddhi Mahamarg and Shaktipeeth Mahamarg are part of a growing highway network, along with a decision to build concrete roads to every village with a population of 1,000 or more. This growth journey will continue, with Maharashtra being the largest contributor to India’s development story. Guided by the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the saints, and in accordance with the Constitution framed by Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Maharashtra will move forward, the Chief Minister affirmed.

After the flag hoisting, the Chief Minister greeted the attendees and paid floral tributes to the statues of Rajmata Jijau, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, and Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at Mantralaya. On the occasion, traditional shehnai performances were presented by renowned artiste Kiran Shinde and co-artistes Arun Shinde and Vivek Shinde.
