Inauguration of Gems and Jewellery Exhibition
Mumbai, September 16: The gems and jewellery sector offers vast employment opportunities, and India has the capability to lead at the global level. To achieve this, the State Government will introduce a certificate course under the Skill University to create skilled manpower for the gems and jewellery industry. This will ensure sustained progress in the sector, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while inaugurating the Gems and Jewellery Exhibition at the Jio World Convention Centre.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Chief Minister Fadnavis, who also visited various stalls and pavilions. Minister of State for Home (Rural) Dr. Pankaj Bhoir, MLA Chitra Wagh, Rajesh Rokde, National President of the Gems and Jewellery Association, Vice President Avinash Gupta, and others were present on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister stated that an ultra-modern Gems and Jewellery Park is being set up at Mahape in Navi Mumbai. Through this park, facilities will be provided to entrepreneurs and exporters in the sector to boost exports. The government is committed to working with the Gems and Jewellery Association to make this sector more employment-oriented. Indian ornaments and jewellery have a long history, and they are exported to many countries. India already leads globally in this field, and to maintain that leadership, government policies will be aligned accordingly, he added.
The Chief Minister further said that the State Government is undertaking large-scale reforms to simplify and shorten processes related to licensing of new industries, land acquisition, and strengthening of existing industries as part of the “Ease of Doing Business” framework. A dedicated ‘Ease of Doing Business War Room’ has also been set up in Mantralaya to monitor the status of reforms and their implementation, ensuring a truly industry-friendly environment in the state.
He noted that organizing such exhibitions will help Indian jewellery gain greater recognition at the international level. He also emphasized the need for more research and innovation in the sector.
