Bhupender Yadav urges focus on global cooperation and adaptation at COP30

New Delhi: Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, said in Brasilia today that as we complete ten years since the Paris Agreement, CoP30 must send a strong message that working together globally is key to fighting climate change. He led India’s discussion at the Pre-CoP30 Ministerial Roundtable in Brazil.

The Minister praised the CoP30 Presidency for creating a space for open and forward-looking talks as the world prepares for the 30th Meeting of the Conference of Parties (CoP30) to the UNFCCC, to be held in Belém from November 10–21, 2025.

Shri Yadav said that to get real results in Belém, global climate promises must be turned into practical local actions. “We must focus on actions that improve people’s lives while tackling climate change,” he added.

He emphasized that “COP30 should focus on Adaptation”. All countries should agree on a basic set of indicators from the UAE-Belem Work Programme. He also mentioned the Baku Adaptation Road Map, saying it should show the world that we aim to protect billions of people and leave no one behind.

Shri Yadav stressed the need to increase public funding for adaptation, which could also encourage funding from other sources. With the Paris Agreement in place, he said it is important not to weaken it by creating new processes after the Global Stock Take. Countries should follow the lessons from the first GST while considering their own circumstances.

He reminded everyone that India wants to be part of the solution. India’s initiatives, like the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and International Big Cat Alliance, reflect cooperation and action.

Shri Yadav concluded: “Let COP30 in Belém show faith in global cooperation, fairness, and our shared determination to take real actions for people and the planet.”
